As someone who deeply loves the written word, one of my favorite ways of expressing emotion is through poetry. So it should come as no surprise that I love writing poetry too.
Poetry is a form of many expressions, from anger to happiness. All it takes is only a few lines for poetry to move me.
I especially love reading poems out loud. I feel whenever I read a poem out loud, I can better hear the flowing rhythms of each line and how they connect to each other.
I love both reading and writing poetry because I feel like it’s a simple way of getting my feelings across. While my emotions in poetry don’t always get expressed the way I want them to, I still find it to be a nice way to write your feelings down.
Since I love poetry so much, I have a couple poems I’ve written and posted here on my blog. My favorite ones include “I Walk Alone,” “Cheating” and “Guarded,” “Victory,” “Welcome Home,” and “Forgiveness.” I feel like each of these poems I wrote came straight from the heart and are full of the exact emotions I wanted to express.
What about you? Do you love poetry too? If so, are there any poems you’ve written that you’d really like to share? Or are there any poems written by someone else that you wouldn’t mind sharing too?

I did check out your blog. I enjoyed reading your post about blackout poetry as well as your post about journaling. I’ll definitely have to give that form of poetry a try the next time I lack poetry inspiration.

Awesome post Raney! Great writers can be great poets too! (Does the name Edgar Allen Poe mean anything?)

I agree completely. Yes, Edgar Allen Poe is a really good poet. I haven’t read all of his work, but the ones I’ve read are really good.

I don’t really care for him. I prefer reading poetry from modern poets of today.

Oh wow, thanks for sharing Raney. I haven’t read many poems since school. I have always admired how poets have a way with words though and the rhyming and ability to communicate using short sentences and verses. Off to read your poems now.

I think that’s one of the things I enjoy about poetry the most, a writer’s ability to put words together in short verses. Thank you and can’t wait to see what you think of my poems!

Hi Raney, I like poetry, too. I like its simplicity and how a lot can be said with few words. I just found your site thru The Art of Blogging and plan to read it thru more thoroughly. I like your blog title’s play on words, Rainy Day. Maybe you should spell it Raney Day :- ) Take care and I’ll be back.

Well, thank you very much for coming over and checking out my blog. The reason I call it Rainy Day though instead of spelled my actual name is because when I was younger (I wanna say elementary school or so) at a daycare I went to I was given the nickname Rainy Day. And I don’t know why, but I remembered that nickname all these years later and thought it was more suitable.
I agree too though with your comment about poetry. I really think it’s a great way of saying a lot with using few words to express to the reader what your trying to convey.

Raney, Thanks for your reply. Coincidentally, a writing student of mine just sent me a poem she wrote about the recent California fires we had from a pet’s point of view. Very sad, and yes she does say a lot w/few words.

Oh, wow. That sounds like it’d be both a wonderful and terrifying poem.

You’re right, wonderful in the art perspective, terrible in the scary or sad or depressing perspective. I myself was moved to question her and myself and Poets in general or all writers really, that perhaps it’s our job to add hope to the things we write as well as to sound the alarm on sad things or bad things that we see happening around us. To me, the most important reason I write is to offer something to readers. The best thing I can offer in this troubled world today is a smile and a sign of Hope even while telling the truth about the bad stuff.
I wrote a poem about losing my sister to plastic surgery gone wrong and it was sad. It was written to sound the alarm. When I wrote it I couldn’t think of anything hopeful to add to it.
Maybe I could have added a line at the end about how her death changed me and my outlook on life. So that I could share in the poem that it wasn’t a complete loss in that sense. But maybe at the time I wrote it I couldn’t see that yet. I’m just trying to say that I think we could tell the truth in El writing without necessarily sounding Drury. Some truths Dash many truths are just dark and painful. I still feel we have to offer hope in our writing, that commiserating isn’t enough. Maybe it’s just that I believe in God and that there’s a reason for everything. Even though a lot of the time we can’t see it in the moment. Because it’s painful. I might do a post on this on my blog in the near future and see what other people have to say about it.

I understand what you mean because you can’t always write something sad all the time without offering the reader some hope that things did get better. I think it would definitely be a good blog post to write because I feel like it could spark some good conversation.

Poetry is wonderful because it speaks to each of us in different ways. I haven’t written much poetry in recent years, but I used to love it.
